Ruben Amorim is reportedly plotting a reunion with Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui at AC Milan after taking over as manager of the Serie A side earlier this summer. The Portuguese coach, who previously managed Manchester United, is said to be keen on bringing the Moroccan international to Italy.
Interest from AC Milan
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, Amorim would like to sign Mazraoui this summer. However, no talks have taken place between the two clubs, and Mazraoui remains under contract with Manchester United until the summer of 2028, with the club holding an option to extend for an additional season.
Mazraoui's versatility is a key attraction for AC Milan, who are expected to use Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation—a system that faced criticism during his time at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick's Praise
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has previously praised Mazraoui, calling him 'fantastic' after his return from the Africa Cup of Nations. The 28-year-old defender finished as runner-up in the tournament but showed no signs of fatigue upon his return.
“Yeah he’s come back well, Nous,” Carrick said. “It was a difficult one, obviously, on the back of the final and how it panned out. [He had] a few days to digest that then back in and around it. He’s been fantastic in and around the group and around training. Obviously, he came on at the end of the game and played a part for us, as you’d expect. So yeah, again [we want to] just keep thickening the squad, bolstering the squad and it’s great to have him back.”
Potential Transfer Hurdles
Despite the reported interest, it remains uncertain whether Carrick would sanction a move for Mazraoui, given his high regard for the player. With Mazraoui under contract until 2028 and United holding an extension option, any potential transfer would require a significant offer from AC Milan.
