A yellow "risk to life" alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) affecting seven UK areas as temperatures are set to soar yet again. The alert comes into effect at 9am on Saturday, August 8, and is set to be lifted at 9pm on Tuesday, August 11.
Seven Areas Affected
The seven affected areas are: East Midlands, East of England, London, South East, South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and The Humber. Just North East and North West are currently not included in the warning.
The UKHSA issues alerts when there is expected to be impacts on health caused by extreme high or low temperatures. The agency has warned that minor impacts are likely across health and social care services, including increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people, greater risk to life of vulnerable people, increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm, and water-related incidents may increase, including risks from cold-water shock and drowning.
Heatwave Continues
It comes as large parts of the country have endured heatwave after heatwave so far in 2026, with the temperatures and lack of rain breaking several Met Office and Environment Agency records. Temperatures in the south of England look to peak on Sunday afternoon, reaching highs of 31C in London and its surrounding areas.
According to Met Office forecasts, temperatures are set to be in the high 20s later in the week, so further alerts could be issued by the UKHSA.
