Weather maps indicate temperatures may reach 36C on Wednesday as heatwave conditions return to parts of the UK. The GFS model shows potential highs of 36C in East Anglia and the south-east, with 35C across much of eastern and south-eastern England.
Counties Affected
Eleven counties in England are forecast to see temperatures of 35C or more: Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, and Middlesex.
The Midlands could experience highs of 32-33C, with Yorkshire possibly reaching 31C. Wales may see 25C, while Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to be cooler.
Met Office Forecast
The Met Office says conditions will turn hot across the south-east on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 29-30C widely. Wednesday is expected to bring the warmest weather, but the hot spell will be short-lived and not widespread across the whole UK.
An official heatwave is declared when temperatures reach the threshold for three consecutive days: 28C in and around London, and 25C elsewhere.
By Friday, temperatures are expected to return closer to average for most of the UK, with slightly below-average conditions in the far north. The far south may remain slightly warmer due to lingering high pressure, but conditions will feel markedly different from the midweek highs.
