The Met Office has named 19 areas across the UK that are expected to see heavy rain this Sunday, July 26, including three places in Wales. The forecaster said rainfall will primarily affect the northwest of the UK, moving from the northwest towards the southeast between midday and 10am on Sunday, accompanied by scattered showers nationwide.
The 19 places predicted to experience heavy rainfall can anticipate between 4mm and 16mm of precipitation per hour. The areas in Wales expecting rain are Conwy, Ceredigion and Gwynedd.
Long-range forecast
In its long-range forecast, the Met Office stated: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times." North western areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but southeastern areas should also see some showers. Confidence becomes lower as we approach the turn of the month, but there are hints that high pressure could return for a time, which would mean dry conditions resuming, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, but occasionally fresh or strong around some coasts, mainly in the north. Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.
Wales forecast for the rest of the week
The forecast for Wales states that Wednesday will continue to stay dry with warm sunshine, with rain developing in some areas over the later part of the week. On Wednesday, July 22, it will be a dry day across the country with early patches of low cloud and fog lifting during the morning to leave plenty of sunshine. Feeling pleasantly warm in the afternoon in the gentle mainly northerly wind. Maximum temperature 27 °C. It will remain dry during the evening and overnight. There will be clear spells, although some low cloud is likely to reform, along with a few mist or fog patches. Minimum temperature 8 °C.
After a locally grey and misty start, Thursday, July 23 will be another fine day with plenty of sunny spells developing. Continuing to feel warm in the sunshine and gentle breeze. Maximum temperature 28 °C. The outlook for Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26 states it will stay fine on Friday, with further spells of warm sunshine. Over the weekend the weather looks more mixed with some rain developing at times, and becoming breezy too.

Rain is also expected elsewhere in England: Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, East Sussex, Warwickshire and Lincolnshire. In Scotland: Scottish Borders, Stirling and Moray. In Northern Ireland: County Antrim, County Down and Derry.
