Lidl is releasing a range of boots this weekend, including a pair that closely resembles a designer version costing £165. The Esmara Ladies' Boots are priced at £6.99 and come in dark brown or black, with the dark brown pair slightly longer than the cropped black ones.
The boots feature a "soft and fleecy faux sheepskin lining" and are made with faux suede. They are available in sizes four to seven and a half, and will be in stores from Sunday, October 4.
Comparison with Ugg's Classic Mini II
Lidl's boots look very similar to Ugg's Women's Classic Mini II Boot in dusted cocoa, which retails at £165. The Ugg version comes in sizes three to 10, is made of real sheepskin and fur, and is available in a wider range of colours, including black, shaded clover, sand and dusty orchid.
The Ugg boots have received many positive reviews from shoppers. One said: "Fits like a glove. So comfy, can't wait for the winter season. Perfect colour." Another added: "I wear Uggs all year round. Great all-weather shoe!" Someone else commented: "Always fantastic quality, also love the colour! Wore my last pair every day, all winter!"
Shopper feedback on Ugg quality
A fourth reviewer wrote: "I wear my UGGs when it's really cold in the wintertime. I am almost always cold, even inside working, and these boots help keep me warmer. I still have a pair of UGG classics I bought about 15 years ago. They are pretty worn, but I still use them as slippers."
However, some shoppers have struggled with sizing and quality. One said: "Bought these boots 3-4 months ago, and they've already developed a hole in the toe. Quite disappointing. I've owned several pairs of Uggs boots, all lasting 5-10 years. Quality has clearly gone down." Another added: "The quality of these boots has declined exponentially over the past 5-10 years. Seams, inner fur texture, and colour do not match expectations or the price paid. I will be exploring UGG Since 1974 in the future."
Someone else commented: "Ordered the same size I always have in my previous UGGs. I have had two pairs of slippers and two pairs of the boots, but in the original style these I can't even get my foot into it past the arch new styling runs narrow and smaller than the original sailing. Please go back to the UGGs that I love."
Alternative option from Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer also offers its own style of the boot for £38. The Suede Flatform Slipper Boots come in sizes three to eight in either chestnut or mink and are made of leather. Lidl's boots will be in store from Sunday, October 4.
