Dominic Chinea, metalwork expert on BBC's The Repair Shop, has apologised to fans after a setback in his workshop at his Cornwall home. He discovered that a large pond he was building had emptied itself after he returned from filming.
Pond problems
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chinea said it was not 'good news'. He explained: 'A pond update, which unfortunately, as you may well have guessed, is not good news. It's emptied itself. The pond is completely empty.'
He had filled the pond with soil and a layer of puddling clay, but it drained away after a few days. Chinea was unsure if it was due to leakage or drainage, but theorised that some may have been due to evaporation because of the recent heatwave.
Next steps
He plans to try 'packed down clay' instead of loose sprinkled-in clay. Chinea added: 'I'm convinced we're going to get this pond full because at the moment I've just got a massive hole in the field with some very expensive clay in the bottom of it. I'm sad to say the pond is empty once again.'
Land Rover troubles
Later in the video, Chinea worked on a Land Rover's rear tub but was left 'stumped' by corroded and rotten material. He said: 'I'm struggling with this corner... There's three or four layers of the material that are all overlapping and spot-welded together. They're all corroded and rotten and need repairs.'
He apologised to viewers: 'I'm sorry that there's not been tons of progress, but I do need to give this corner some thought.'
