The Met Office has identified 10 areas in the UK that are likely to 'escape' the heaviest rain on Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 25C to 26C in these regions. This comes as new thunderstorm warnings have been issued for 64 areas across the country, with potential flooding and power cuts also warned.
Forecast details and affected regions
Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth shared the weather forecast for today (August 28). She said some areas could see temperatures reach between 25C and 26C, while other parts of the country experience heavy rainfall. She noted "it is not going to be wet for everyone" and one large UK area could "escape" the heaviest downpours.
Shuttleworth explained: "The rain will extend to further south and west into the afternoon across parts of Wales, southwestern England, and in through the Midlands, where we saw some intense downpours through yesterday."
Areas expected to remain dry
She added: "Parts of northwestern, northern Ireland, or northwestern Scotland would likely be relatively dry through much of the day. Some sunshine too across Northern Ireland. And the southeast will likely escape much of the heaviest rain."
The meteorologist continued: "Now, there is a chance of some heavy downpours, but it's not going to be reliable rain across the whole area. And it will still feel quite warm across the southeast temperature's climate around 25 or 26 degrees."
She also noted: "A little bit fresher, though, further north and west, when we were starting to get some fresher air in."

Heavy rain is set to affect large parts of the UK on Friday and throughout the weekend, alongside some drier and brighter periods. The forecast follows a separate Met Office warning of a nine-hour thunderstorm for 64 areas on Friday.
