GB News presenter Patrick Christys was left speechless over what he described as one of the most “mental” days for illegal immigration Britain has ever seen. The anchor was reporting on new statistics released by the Home Office, which revealed that around 430 people crossed the Channel illegally in a single day, with more boats expected to arrive.
Channel crossings continue despite weather
Christys explained: “Of course we had the legal migration figures today, now we’ve also got the illegal migration figures. Now devastating new illegal immigration stats have just been released by the Home Office, and what a day for them to do it, because around 430 illegals crossed the Channel today! There are several more boats about to arrive as we speak. That number could easily top 600 for the day, couldn’t it? And this is on a day of pretty bad weather conditions in the Channel.”
The presenter then turned to the Home Office statistics, which he said the government wanted the public to view as good news. These included a 50% reduction in asylum seekers in hotels over the last year, a 48% increase in immigration crime disruptions compared to the previous year, and more than 80,000 criminals and immigration offenders returned and deported since July 2024.
Presenter challenges official figures
A fuming Christys continued: “Right, let’s get stuck into that load of guff, then, shall we? Because they’ve moved them out of hotels and into actual houses or flats all around the UK. More than 73,000 asylum seekers are now housed in non-hotel accommodation in the 12 months leading up to June 2026. That figure is 3% higher than at the end of June 2025. This makes up 78% of all asylum seekers in the UK.”
He also questioned the claimed 48% increase in raids on illegal migrant working, noting that this would have resulted in the arrests of a few thousand people. Christys added: “I spoke to our home and security editor Mark White earlier – he thinks we have close to one and a half million people here illegally, and it could actually be even more. So we haven’t really touched the sides there, have we?”
Concluding his segment, Christys said: “I am actually struggling to think of a more mental day than this when it comes to the illegal migrant invasion of Britain.”
