A new yellow weather warning has been issued for Greater Manchester as Storm Boelo is set to bring "very windy and wet" weather to the north of the UK. The alert comes just one day after Storm Austen, which is currently battering the country with strong winds on Friday (October 23).
Warning Details and Affected Areas
The Met Office has issued a yellow wind alert affecting the whole of the north of the UK from 12pm on Saturday (October 24) until 9pm on Sunday (October 25). The 33-hour warning covers Scotland, north east England, north west England, and Yorkshire.
Greater Manchester has been included in the yellow wind warning, along with Blackburn, Blackpool, Cheshire, Cumbria, Halton, Lancashire, Merseyside and Warrington.
Expected Wind Speeds and Impacts
The Met Office warning reads: "The strongest winds from Storm Boelo are expected from Saturday evening and extend eastwards through Sunday."
Further description warns: "Very strong westerly winds associated with Storm Boelo are expected with fairly widespread gusts of 60 to 70 mph and gusts to 80 mph in exposed coastal areas."
"The strongest winds will initially affect western Scotland and far north of Northern Ireland on Saturday evening and then spread eastwards overnight and through Sunday. High winds will be accompanied by periods of heavy rain and frequent showers," the warning continues.
Additional Amber Warning
The warning states: "Whilst high winds are expected across a wider area with a yellow warning in force, there is a higher confidence in impacts and disruption taking place within this amber warning area. The winds will gradually ease from the west through Sunday."
A 12-hour amber wind warning is also in force in parts of north west England between 9pm on Saturday and 9pm on Sunday, affecting Cumbria, where winds could reach as strong as 80mph. The full list of weather warnings can be found on the Met Office website.
