Nightmare Before Christmas trail opens at Arley Hall

The Nightmare Before Christmas light trail has opened at Arley Hall in Cheshire, bringing the classic Disney Tim Burton film to life with more than 1,700 light installations. The trail, which runs until January 3, 2027, is the first of its kind in the north west, following successful runs in America.

What visitors can expect

Set in the grounds of Arley Hall near Knutsford, the trail takes visitors through the worlds of Halloween Town and Christmas Town, following the story of Jack Skellington, the "pumpkin king" who wants to bring Christmas magic to his spooky friends. Characters such as Jack, Sally, and the ghost dog Zero appear along the route, alongside scenes like the Oogie Boogie Man with a spinning roulette wheel and giant spiders that seem to come alive in the trees.

The trail features interactive video projections, intelligent LED lighting, music, and 3D-printed sculptures. It starts in Halloween Town before becoming more Christmassy, with appearances from "Sandy Claws" along the way. Organisers say the trail is designed to "evolve with the seasons," offering a family-friendly experience suitable for younger children.

Practical details and amenities

Being an outdoor event, the trail can get muddy, as was the case on opening night, so visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes or wellies. At the start of the trail, there is a festive food village offering hot dogs, loaded tater tots, and cheese toasties, with undercover seating and a teepee. Midway through the forest, a clearing features food and drink stalls, including a hot crumble and waffle stall, plus a shop selling movie merchandise.

The trail has been created by LETSGO in partnership with Adventureland and is presented by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Group. It is open across the half term week and then daily except Mondays up to Christmas. General admission starts at £32 for adults, with discounted tickets available for children and seniors.
