The Met Office has issued an extended yellow warning for thunderstorms across Northern Ireland, affecting six counties. The warning now runs from 9:15am until 9pm, having been brought forward from its original midday start.
Warning details and expected impacts
The national weather agency warns that affected areas could see flooding, lightning, and hail throughout the day. Up to 30mm of rain could fall within just two hours.
Some flooding to homes and businesses is likely, potentially causing damage to buildings and structures. Driving conditions are expected to be severely affected by spray, standing water, and hail, leading to considerably longer journey times.

The Met Office warns that delays to train services are possible, and lightning strikes could cause damage to buildings. Power cuts are also a distinct possibility.
Residents in areas susceptible to flash flooding are urged to prepare a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. People are also advised to make preparations for potential power cuts.

The Met Office advises: "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."
For lightning strikes, it adds: "If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, protect yourself by finding a safe enclosed shelter (such as a car). Do not shelter under or near trees, or other structures which may be struck by lightning. If you are on an elevated area move to lower ground."
