Wales is set to experience temperatures of 25°C on Tuesday, with parts of the UK reaching 27°C, according to the latest Met Office forecast. The warm weather is driven by a deep area of low pressure in the Atlantic, which will pull warmer air over much of the country.
Tuesday will start cloudy with drizzle in the morning, but temperatures are forecast to rise "markedly as sunshine develops during the afternoon." The warmth is expected to feel "warm and muggy," particularly around the Welsh coast, where strong winds are also predicted.
Warmest spots in Wales
Monmouth is expected to see the highest temperature in Wales on Tuesday at 25°C around 4pm. Cardiff will reach 23°C, while Swansea, Wrexham and Aberystwyth are forecast to see 22°C.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Matthew Lehnert said: "A deep area of low pressure far into the Atlantic is the primary driver behind the UK’s weather over the next few days. Its first influence will help pull some warmer air over much of the country on Tuesday, with a peak of 27°C likely – which is notably warm for the time of year."
Lehnert added: "A warm night will follow across southern and eastern areas, with minimum temperatures of 19°C in places."
Wet and windy Wednesday
The warm spell is not expected to last, with Wednesday forecast to be "increasingly wet and windy." Overnight into Wednesday, heavy rain in some parts will break up the warm air and bring a dip in temperature.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates said: "As this weather front moves gradually from west to east late on Tuesday and Wednesday, many places will see around 10mm of rain, with in excess of 40mm possible in some isolated spots in south-facing hills in the west."
Keates also warned of gusty winds, with gusts over 50mph possible, particularly on exposed coasts in the northwest. Large waves are likely to affect some coasts in the west, coinciding with high spring tides.
Weekend outlook
While the week remains changeable, heading towards the weekend the weather is expected to have a reduced chance of rainfall, "bringing a weekend of pleasant weather for many, with some sunshine."
