Firefighters are tackling a large fire at an industrial building on Chew Valley Road in Greenfield, with residents advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.
Blaze near Tesco sends smoke across town
The fire, which broke out on an industrial estate near a Tesco supermarket, is sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky above the town. Multiple fire crews are at the scene.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are tackling a large fire at an industrial building on Chew Valley Road in Greenfield. Due to the amount of smoke, residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed. A cordon is in place and people should avoid the area if possible."
Ten crews called to the scene
Ten crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are tackling the blaze. A statement from the service said: "Just after 7.45am on Sunday 16 August, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at an industrial building on Chew Valley Road, Greenfield."
The statement added: "10 fire engines and a number of specialist appliances from across Greater Manchester are now in attendance, with firefighters working hard to bring the fire under control."
Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed, and people should avoid the area if possible due to the cordon in place.
