Fuego Volcano Erupts, Evacuations Ordered in Guatemala

Central America's most active volcano has erupted, with molten lava spewing from its centre, prompting Guatemala to issue its second-highest emergency alert and order evacuations.

Orange Alert Declared Nationwide

An orange (danger) alert has been declared nationwide due to the eruption of the Fuego volcano, said disaster coordination agency Conred on X. The agency has begun evacuating two villages near the volcano, located 35 kilometres from the capital Guatemala City.

History of Evacuations

There have been several mass evacuations in recent years due to Fuego's eruptions. Guatemala lies on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
