Cardiff Central signalling fault causes train delays and cancellations
Cardiff Central signalling fault causes train disruption

Passengers heading to Cardiff are facing disruption today, Saturday, October 3, due to issues on the railway.

Transport for Wales (TfW) said there is a problem with the signalling system at Cardiff Central railway station, which means services could be delayed or cancelled for the rest of the day. The rail operator has warned that there are delays of up to five minutes on some lines, and trains travelling between Radyr and Cardiff Central could be cancelled altogether.

Services affected and alternative travel

All services on the Treherbert line will no longer call at Cardiff Queen Street, Cathays and Llandaff on Saturday, due to the signalling issues.

TfW has apologised to customers for the disruption and has arranged for tickets to be accepted on local bus routes. This is available on the number 24 and 25 Cardiff Bus services between Cardiff and Llandaff. Pay as you go cannot be used on bus services.

Compensation and other disruptions

If your train is delayed or cancelled and you arrive at your destination station more than 15 minutes later than scheduled, you can claim compensation through 'Delay Repay'. Full details are available on the TfW website.

There are also ongoing issues on the line between Pontypridd and Cardiff Bay due to issues with the 398 tram-trains which have resulted in them being removed from passenger testing. It comes as extra arrangements have been made to accommodate the thousands of people expected in the capital on Sunday for the Cardiff Half Marathon and the Wales v Denmark football match.
