The UK government has updated travel advice for 29 European countries following the introduction of new EU border checks. The digital Entry/Exit System (EES), launched in October, requires non-EU citizens, including Britons, to provide biometric data at the border.
The new checks have caused significant delays, with reports of queues lasting up to five hours. Airlines and airports have called for a suspension during the peak summer period, as some flights depart half empty due to passengers missing their departures.
Holidaymakers are advised to allow extra time at airports and border crossings. The system applies to all EU member states except Cyprus and Ireland, plus four non-EU Schengen countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
