Tynemouth Longsands has been ranked the third best beach in the UK for a seaside walk this autumn, according to rankings compiled by experts at Go Outdoors.
The North East beach, which spans over one mile of golden sand, finished with an overall score of 8.78 out of a possible 10. Southwold Beach in Suffolk took the number one spot.
Why Longsands ranked highly
Go Outdoors championed the beach for boasting "a beautiful and peaceful spot" which is great for nature enthusiasts hoping to enjoy birdwatching and seeing wild grey and harbour seals.
Longsands' top three placing was boosted by the fact that the quality of its bathing water had consistently been rated as Excellent, while its Google rating is a near perfect 4.8 out of 5.
Other North East beaches in the top 10
Longsands was not the only North East beach to make the top 10, with Bamburgh also included at number 6, with an overall score of 7.45 out of 10.
The beach is no stranger to famous visitors, with Newcastle defender Dan Burn a big fan of a dog walk there and his former United teammates Kieran Trippier and Sandro Tonali also often seen there. Last year, the beach got a visit from superstar DJ Calvin Harris, who paid a visit with his Newcastle-born TV presenter wife Vick Hope.
