Workers in 32 professions could unlock up to £85 by switching energy tariffs before October. The offer comes through the Blue Light Card, which provides discounts for people in jobs such as the emergency services, NHS, social care, teaching and the armed forces.
Qualifying workers can access exclusive energy deals through the Blue Light Card ahead of Ofgem’s new energy price cap, which takes effect on Thursday.
Price cap rise from October 1
The price cap will rise by 4% from October 1 for a typical dual fuel household in England, Wales and Scotland, adding an extra £60 per year to the average bill. The average household paying by direct debit for gas and electricity will face costs of £1,723 per year from Thursday if that level is sustained over 12 months.
According to energy experts, homes on a standard tariff with average usage are expected to spend £145 on energy in October, compared with £109 in September.
Exclusive offers from EDF, Uswitch and ScottishPower
Blue Light Card members can unlock up to £85 through exclusive energy switching incentives with leading providers. EDF is offering members a £55 gift card when choosing an eligible dual fuel tariff, available to new and existing customers. Customers can select their gift card from Amazon, Merlin, Aldi, Tesco, ASOS, or The Restaurant Group.
Uswitch is offering new and existing Blue Light Card customers a £50 Amazon gift card when switching to a dual fuel energy tariff. ScottishPower is offering the largest incentive: an £85 Amazon gift card when switching to a dual fuel tariff.
To qualify for the ScottishPower offer, customers must click through from the Blue Light Card to ScottishPower and complete their purchase via the link provided.
Eligible professions

The gift card incentive should not be the primary basis for switching, as customers should compare the full tariff cost before changing providers.
The 32 eligible professions include NHS workers, ambulance service staff, British Army personnel, fire service staff, dental practice workers, highways England traffic officers, Home Office staff, HM Armed Forces veterans, HM Coastguard, HM Prison & Probation Services volunteers, residential care workers, MoD civil servants, MoD fire service, MoD police, mountain rescue, homelessness workforce, optometrists, police, pharmacy staff, Red Cross, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, Royal Navy, search and rescue, social care workers, teaching community, and retired members of several of these groups.
