The hack is particularly useful for long-haul travellers who want to bring back souvenirs or products not available in the UK. It means paying for only one large suitcase on the outbound flight, though two will be needed on the return.
One social media user pointed out an even more cost-effective method: take a smaller packed suitcase inside the large one, then on the return flight check the large bag filled with souvenirs and use the small case as a free carry-on.
