Consumer group Which? has highlighted a seating trick that could give airline passengers more legroom on certain Ryanair and easyJet flights without paying extra. The advice, shared on Instagram, recommends sitting on the right-hand side of the cabin on specific aircraft types.
Which? recommends right-hand seats
According to Which?, passengers on most Ryanair aircraft, which are Boeing 737s, should choose seats D, E or F in rows three to 15. These are the three seats on the right-hand side when facing the front of the plane.
For easyJet, the trick applies only to flights operated by an Airbus A321neo. Which? says passengers choosing seats D, E or F in rows three to 13 can get an extra inch of legroom compared with those in rows six to 17 on the left-hand side.
Check aircraft configuration first
The consumer group warns that aircraft and seating layouts can vary, so the trick will not work on every flight. Travellers should check which aircraft is scheduled for their journey before selecting seats.
Which? recommends using flight details to establish the aircraft model, then checking its seating configuration. The group said: “Just head to Google Flights and type your destination and dates in to find the model number. Then use Seat Plan Experts Aeroloper to find your aircraft configuration.”
Passengers can also check through the airline's app or online account, where the aircraft name is usually displayed at the top of the seat-selection page. The “right-hand” trick applies only to particular configurations and does not guarantee extra legroom on every flight.
