Nao Santa Maria replica docks in Liverpool

A replica of the historic Nao Santa María ship has docked at the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool. The vessel, which is a replica of Christopher Columbus' flagship, is visiting the city as part of an international historical outreach tour.

Construction and tour details

The Spanish Nao Santa Maria was constructed by the Nao Victoria Foundation in Punta Umbría (Huelva, Spain), with funding from the Huelva Provincial Council and the Cajasol Foundation. Construction took 14 months, starting in January 2017 and completing in March 2018.

This visit marks a significant stop in its extensive 2026 European tour, which includes stops in dozens of cities where it opens its decks to the public. The Nao Santa María is more than just a ship; it is a floating museum and a proud ambassador of the maritime, cultural and touristic heritage of the Province of Huelva (Spain). It represents the great historical oceanic expeditions that changed the course of world history—the discovery of the Americas.
