Mogren Beach in Montenegro has been named Europe's best beach for 2026, according to research by travel insurance specialists Quotezone.co.uk. The beach edged out Nissi Beach in Cyprus, which claimed the top spot last year, thanks to its crystal-clear turquoise waters, warm temperatures, and affordable costs.
How the Ranking Was Determined
Quotezone.co.uk assessed ten beaches across popular European holiday spots, rating them on sea and air temperature, five-star reviews, accommodation costs, local drink prices, and distance from the nearest airport. Mogren Beach pipped Nissi Beach in Cyprus to the top spot, with the Cypriot favourite claiming second place. Other beaches featured on the list included Irakli Beach in Bulgaria, Italy's La Pelosa Beach, and Bournemouth Beach in the UK.

Mogren Beach is a stunning twin shoreline nestled beneath striking sandstone cliffs just west of Budva's Old Town in Montenegro. Widely regarded as one of the jewels of the Budva Riviera, it is uniquely divided into two separate coves — Mogren I and Mogren II — linked by a charming wooden footbridge and a narrow natural stone tunnel carved directly into the cliff face. The spot boasts a wonderful combination of rugged natural scenery, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and easy access to historic sights and attractions. The beach has also become a hit online, with countless holidaymakers flocking to TikTok to share its breathtaking surroundings.

Montenegro catches the eye for its wallet-friendly prices, boasting some of the lowest overall costs on the list. This affordability helped propel Mogren Beach to the top of the index.
Runner-Up: Nissi Beach, Cyprus
Nissi Beach in Cyprus, which topped the rankings last year, claims second place this time around. It continues to score impressively for its turquoise waters and gloriously warm conditions, with sea temperatures averaging over 27°C in summer and air temperatures climbing to nearly 29°C. While the destination remains a firm favourite with holidaymakers thanks to its vibrant resort atmosphere and golden sands, steeper costs — averaging £318.85 for a three-day stay — see it fall behind Montenegro.
Other Beaches in the Top 10
Third on the list is Playa de Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, Spain, which impresses with its strong review scores and dependable year-round sunshine. The destination boasts over 5,000 five-star reviews, and average July air temperatures of 27.8°C. Bulgaria's Irakli Beach takes fourth place, delivering one of the most purse-friendly beach breaks in the index. A three-day stay in the surrounding area averages just over £216, while a draught beer costs a mere £0.88 — the cheapest in the entire ranking.
Notably, several of Europe's most visited beach destinations find themselves nestled in the middle of the index. Greece's Elafonissi Beach comes in fifth, followed by Portugal's Praia da Falésia in sixth place, Croatia's Zlatni Rat in seventh, and Italy's La Pelosa Beach in eighth — all boasting stunning scenery and considerable visitor appeal, though each pushed further down the rankings by elements including cost and overall value. Plenty of Brits continue to choose seaside staycations, with Bournemouth Beach remaining a firm favourite among UK holidaymakers. While Bournemouth Beach delivers picturesque coastal vistas and a traditional pier brimming with family-friendly attractions, cooler average sea and air temperatures of 17.2°C and 17.5°C respectively see it land in ninth position. Bottom of the rankings sits France's Plage de Palombaggia in Corsica, largely down to steep drink and accommodation prices, with a three-night hotel stay during peak season setting travellers back a staggering £603.

Cyprus and Spain continue to perform strongly with consistently high temperatures and excellent visitor ratings, but higher demand and holiday costs mean they sit just behind Montenegro in this year's index. In many cases, popularity could be pushing up prices, making them less desirable for a budget-friendly trip. As travellers finalise their summer holiday plans, we recommend looking beyond the most obvious hotspots, as some of Europe's lesser-known destinations may be offering some of the best all-round beach experiences."
