Man rescued after ankle injury on Whitley Bay rocks

A man was taken to hospital after injuring his ankle on rocks at Whitley Bay seafront, prompting a multi-agency rescue on Sunday morning. Police, ambulance and coastguard personnel were involved in the response near Grant's Clock, where the seafront meets South Parade.

Rescue and hospital transfer

The man was rescued by Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and handed to the North East Ambulance Service, which took him to hospital in Cramlington. The incident was reported at around 9.45am on 11 October.

An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: "A man reported to have injured his ankle on rocks at Whitley Bay at about 9.50am on 11 October was passed safely into the care of North East Ambulance Service by Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade."

Ambulance response

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 9.44am on Sunday 11 October to reports of a person injured at Whitley Bay seafront. We dispatched an ambulance crew to the scene and received support from our colleagues at the coastguard. One patient was taken to NSECH (the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital) for further treatment."
