Jet2 has updated its travel advice following an EU rule change on air fares and baggage allowances, reassuring customers that their hand luggage allowance will remain unchanged. The European Commission's new rules, due to take effect in 2027, aim to give passengers greater transparency about cabin baggage allowances across the airline industry.
Jet2's hand luggage policy unchanged
While some airlines charge extra for hand luggage, Jet2 customers already receive a free 10kg hand luggage allowance as standard, plus a personal item. Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: "For Jet2 customers, these new rules change nothing because we have always believed in doing the right thing by customers when it comes to hand luggage."
Heapy added: "Holidaymakers should not have to pay extra or figure out complicated rules just to bring their essentials on board. We have always believed in making things simple, transparent and fair, so customers know exactly what they're getting when they book."
Advice for summer travel
Jet2 has also advised passengers to bring a paper copy of their travel insurance when heading to the airport this summer, as the airline experiences one of its busiest seasons ever. In a post on X, Jet2 urged travellers to take a physical copy of their insurance policy, stating it "includes your policy number and your insurer's 24/7 emergency contact, so you're never stuck without help."
The Government's Travel Aware website highlights the importance of travel insurance, noting it "provides protection and coverage for unexpected events that can happen on holiday." This includes medical emergencies, lost or stolen luggage, cancellations, and delays.
