The Big Burn Walk: What to Expect

The trail takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete, with the full loop stretching roughly 1.6 to 1.75 miles. It follows a dramatic limestone gorge, crossing zig-zagging wooden footbridges and ending at a hidden waterfall. The Golspie Burn flows beneath arched wooden bridges, and the waterfall is the main reward at the end of the gorge path.

Walkers also pass under a towering old railway arch and through dense, green woodland that feels completely removed from the nearby North Coast 500 highway. In spring and summer, the air is filled with the smell of wild garlic, accompanied by colourful wildflowers and rich bird life.

There is no entry fee, and parking is free near the edge of Golspie.
