EasyJet Issues Urgent Travel Alert for UK Holidaymakers to Gibraltar
EasyJet Alert: Longer Queues at Gibraltar for UK Tourists

EasyJet has issued an important travel update for British holidaymakers heading to Gibraltar, warning of longer queues at the airport due to new border checks.

Border Changes at Gibraltar Airport

The airline updated its guidance on Tuesday, June 16, following the phased rollout of stricter security measures and changing border rules. The alert states that Entry/Exit System (EES) checks may be carried out for both arrivals and departures, potentially causing delays.

EasyJet advises passengers to allow extra time when planning both legs of their journey to and from Gibraltar.

Post-Brexit Schengen Rules

British travellers are reminded that time spent in Gibraltar now counts towards the 90-day Schengen allowance for non-EU nationals, including UK citizens travelling visa-free. UK nationals can visit Gibraltar without a visa for short stays, but must adhere to the 90-day limit within a 180-day period across Schengen countries.

The affected countries include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Visa Requirements

EasyJet also notes that non-EU or third-country nationals may require a Schengen visa to enter Gibraltar and should check entry requirements before travelling.

The alert comes as easyJet recently introduced a 48-hour rule for UK passengers, and major airlines are set to implement new hand luggage rules starting in 2027.
