As UK temperatures drop in autumn, the Cypriot resort of Paphos offers highs of up to 27C in October, with return flights from London starting at £81.

Warmth and value in October

Cyprus, an eastern Mediterranean island, enjoys sunshine year-round and sees temperatures reach 27°C in October, compared with UK highs of 14°C. Autumn is a popular time to visit destinations that become uncomfortably hot in summer, with the added benefits of fewer crowds and lower costs outside the October half-term.

Skyscanner currently lists return flights from London to Paphos, a coastal city in south-west Cyprus, from £81 in October. This price excludes seat selection and baggage allowance.

Beaches and harbour attractions

Paphos is one of Cyprus's most sought-after resorts, known for its multiple beaches, classical archaeological sites and vibrant harbour. Visitors can choose between lounging on sandy shores or exploring historical wonders.

Notable beaches include Coral Bay, which stretches for 500 metres, Venus Beach with its fine golden sand, and the compact Vardas Beach, ideal for snorkelling. The harbour is lined with restaurants and bars, offering spots for a drink in the sunshine or an evening cocktail.

Ancient ruins and UNESCO heritage

The city also holds ancient ruins that reveal the nation's past. The Katos Paphos Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features monuments dating back to the 4th century BC, with most remains from the Roman era, including elaborate mosaic floors of Roman villas.

The site also includes the Tombs of the Kings, a necropolis built in the 3rd century BC.
