British holidaymakers were trapped in a sinking minibus in Tenerife as flash floods hit the Canary Islands. Dramatic footage shows a woman climbing onto the vehicle's roof, shouting for help as floodwaters rose.
The incident occurred around 9pm local time on a road near Puerto de la Cruz's Botanical Gardens. The minibus, carrying five UK tourists, became stranded during a torrential downpour. Passengers exited through the sunroof, with one woman frantically waving and crying, 'Help, help.'
Firefighters rescued two women by lowering a ladder from a bridge above, while the driver helped three others out. All five were unharmed. The group appeared to be traveling to or from the airport, with luggage visible.
The flooding was caused by Storm Therese, which has battered the Canary Islands for days, causing dams to burst, roads to collapse, and flight cancellations. A red alert for torrential rain was issued for Santa Cruz and nearby areas, effective from 8pm to midnight.
Spanish weather agency Aemet warned of intense winds, poor visibility, and heavy rain. Local authorities urged people to avoid unnecessary journeys. Emergency services have dealt with nearly 2,000 weather-related incidents since the storm began last Wednesday.
