Anglesey Named Among UK's Best Places to Visit by Time Out

Time Out has published its definitive list of 14 UK towns, cities, and villages that are must-visits in 2026, and the picturesque island of Anglesey has secured the number eight spot. The list highlights destinations with exciting new attractions, groundbreaking cultural events, or simply 'quiet brilliance'.

Anglesey's Natural Beauty

Anglesey is designated a national landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Its beaches, such as Benllech Beach — a Blue Flag-awarded stretch with golden sands and gentle shallow waters — are major draws. At low tide, the sand extends for miles, making it ideal for families, swimming, sunbathing, and walking. One TripAdvisor reviewer noted: 'The beach is stunning. The sand is clean, golden and the sea a gorgeous colour. Had two wonderful walks around by it, great coastal walks. Do check the tide as it comes in fast, as we discovered.'

The Dingle Nature Reserve (Nant y Pandy) is a 25-acre wooded valley perfect for bird-watching, flower-spotting, and leisurely strolls. Wildlife includes frogs, dragonflies, beetles, slugs, trout, and occasionally foxes.

Culinary Scene

Time Out highlighted Anglesey's vibrant food scene. Historically known as the 'bread basket of Cymru', the island's fertile land yields fine produce, reflected in locally-sourced menus. Notable restaurants include Sosban and the Old Butchers, a Michelin-starred establishment. The Tavern on the Bay offers elevated comfort food with coastal views, while The Stores in Trearddur Bay is praised for its 'brilliant' pizza and small plates, complemented by regular DJ nights.

Key Attractions

Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the 'greatest castle never built', is singled out as an unmissable attraction. For accommodation, Time Out champions Château Rhianfa, a Grade II-listed villa with its own private beach.

Anglesey is accessed via a 19th-century suspension bridge, the Menai Bridge, which offers sweeping vistas upon entry. The island feels like a world of its own, beloved by holidaymakers for its stunning beaches and by residents for its extensive nature walks.
