The state of Victoria has been particularly hard hit, with emergency services receiving over 270 calls for assistance as fierce winds and torrential rain battered the region. Meteorologists have recorded wind gusts reaching astonishing speeds of 111km/h at St Kilda, while other areas experienced sustained winds powerful enough to uproot established trees and cause structural damage to buildings.
