A cat owner from the US has shared a hilarious video of her black cat, Mercy, experiencing snow for the first time. The footage, posted on Instagram, shows Mercy cautiously stepping onto a snow-covered balcony, meowing softly before eventually rolling around in the snow.
The video comes as the UK is battered by Storm Goretti, which brought snow, rain, and strong winds on Thursday. Amber warnings for snow remain in parts of the Midlands, Wales, and the South West, while yellow warnings cover most of Scotland and England.
While playing in the snow can be fun, authorities advise against unnecessary travel due to dangerous conditions. Pet owners are also urged to keep animals safe, ensuring cats have access to warmth and are not left outside for long periods.
Cats Protection recommends checking cat flaps are not blocked by snow, providing indoor water and litter trays, and wiping off any snow or grit from fur after outdoor trips. In extreme weather, keeping cats indoors is advised to prevent frostbite or hypothermia.
