UK Weather: Met Issues Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts for Scotland and NI
Met Office Yellow Warnings for Rain and Thunderstorms

The Met Office has issued two yellow weather alerts for Tuesday, June 30, covering parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. A rain warning applies to central Scotland from 2pm to 9pm, while a thunderstorm warning is in effect for Northern Ireland from 12pm to 6pm.

Rain Warning for Scotland

The yellow rain alert warns of 'slow-moving, heavy showers' that could lead to localised flooding and travel disruption. The Met Office stated: 'Following rain overnight and this morning, which could be heavy at times, showers are expected to break out this afternoon which are likely to be slow-moving. A few places could see 20 mm in an hour, and there is a chance that the odd location could see 30-40mm in 2-3 hours. This may lead to some localised flooding and travel disruption across parts of central Scotland.'

Affected areas include Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Edinburgh, Scottish Borders, West Lothian, Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire.

Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Ireland

The thunderstorm alert covers County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone. The Met Office warned of 'slow-moving thunderstorms' that may cause travel disruption and flooding. Possible impacts include spray, standing water, and hail affecting driving conditions, longer journey times, delays to train services, flooding of homes and businesses, damage from lightning strikes, and short-term loss of power.

This follows last week's heatwave, which brought record-breaking temperatures to the UK in the second heatwave of 2026.
