The Met Office has identified 16 areas across the UK that will experience heavy rain and potential storms on Sunday, as a cold front moves in to replace the humid air. The wet weather is expected to begin in the early hours, bringing a fresher start to the week.
Forecast Details
Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir explained that a cold front will challenge the high humidity, bringing "something quite fresher from the west." She added, "Breezy towards the North-west on Sunday. Temperatures a bit more reasonable, certainly a comfier night for sleeping into Monday."
According to weather maps, rain will hit Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales from around 2am on Sunday. Belfast could see 4-8mm of rain per hour, similar to the South-west of Scotland and parts of the Highlands. By 3am, the rain will ease over most of Northern Ireland but move east across Scotland, with heavier patches, while West Wales also faces downpours. By 6.30am, only patchy rain remains over Wales, and Northern Ireland becomes largely dry.
England's Outlook
England may experience scattered showers from 6.30am, with a band of rain lingering over the North-west and stretching to the Scottish borders. By mid-morning at 9.45am, the rain shifts east, leaving patches over Scotland and scattered showers over the Lake District and Pennines. The rest of Sunday is expected to be mostly dry.
