An 80-year-old woman who became stranded on Wales's highest mountain, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), was rescued after a harrowing ordeal, as featured on the BBC programme SOS: Extreme Rescues.
Josie and her husband Trevor had climbed the mountain twice a year for many years. On this occasion, Josie continued alone after Trevor decided to turn back due to 'horrendous' weather. She lost the path and called mountain rescue, saying: 'I'm on Snowdon and I'm stuck. I must have come off the track, and I got lost.' She added that she had cut her head and was shivering.
Rescuers found Josie in a 'perilous' position on a cliff edge, over 100 metres from the path. One rescuer said: 'We struggled to find her on our first attempt.' Trevor, who had waited for two and a half hours before descending without a phone, feared she had 'gone over the edge'.
More than four and a half hours after her 999 call, Josie was found. She recalled: 'I thought nobody would find me, nobody.' A rescuer warned: 'She was 10 feet from death.' Josie was reunited with Trevor after 10 hours, and he admitted: 'I broke down, I was that relieved.'
