Dramatic pictures show the recovery of a large shipwreck from the waters off Pembrokeshire, Wales, six months after it ran aground. The Resolute, a former fishing vessel, was abandoned near Aber Hywel, Dinas, during rough seas and a force seven southerly wind in December 2025.
Rescue and Initial Response
All four crew members were safely evacuated, though one was briefly swept into the sea before being rescued. The 24-metre long ship is estimated to be worth more than £250,000. The incident occurred around 3:30am on December 11, 2025.
Salvage Operation
Salvage teams attempted to remove the boat but could not pull it clear from the rocks. Instead, the vessel had to be broken up to be removed from the foot of the rugged cliffs. Local drone operator Nick Bolton said: "A sad end to the former fishing vessel and guard vessel the GV RESOLUTE. The salvage team couldn't pull her from the rocks as she was stuck fast, so they have had to remove her by breaking her up. She will sail no more and a tragic end to her seafaring career."
Environmental and Ongoing Monitoring
Bolton added: "A credit to the salvage team trying to do this with as little environmental damage as they can in a difficult situation." In February, HM Coastguard stated: "HM Coastguard continues to monitor a vessel which remains aground near Fishguard, first reported on 11 December 2025. The majority of its fuel has been transferred ashore and there have been no reports of pollution since a small amount was initially identified. Salvage remains the responsibility of the vessel's owner."
