After a heatwave expected to bring temperatures of 35C or higher to parts of the UK, a sharp chill is forecast for early August. According to WXCharts weather maps, temperatures could fall to 7C in the Scottish Highlands on Thursday, August 6.
Heatwave Then Cold Snap
Tomorrow, temperatures are set to reach 35C or above in five regions: Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands, the East of England, London, and the South East. However, within days, a significant drop is expected across the nation.
The lowest temperature is predicted to be around 7C in the Highlands. Many areas in Scotland, Wales, and northern England will see lows of 9C or less.
Areas Below 9C
In Wales, Brecknockshire, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire, and Caernarfonshire will fall to single digits. In England, Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland, Lancashire, Westmorland, and Cumberland are among the coldest, also dropping to 9C. Scottish areas affected include Caithness, Sutherland, Cromartyshire, Ross-shire, Inverness-shire, Argyllshire, Perthshire, Nairnshire, Morayshire, Banffshire, Aberdeenshire, Kincardineshire, Angus, Fife, Stirlingshire, Midlothian, East Lothian, Berwickshire, Peeblesshire, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Wigtownshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and Dumfriesshire.
Cool Weather Continues
The cool conditions are expected to persist into Friday, with northern areas experiencing harsher lows while London sits around 13C.
The Met Office forecast for August 1-10 warns of some strong winds during this period. It states: "Temperatures ranging from around average in the NW to warm in the southeast, perhaps becoming very warm in the southeast through the weekend." The forecast adds: "It will probably become more changeable thereafter, with potential for an area of low pressure to move close to or across the UK early in August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and perhaps some strong winds for a time. It may become more settled again towards the end of the first week of August."
