The UK is forecast to experience a heatwave at the start of August 2026, with weather maps showing temperatures expected to soar to 37C in some areas, according to the Met Office and Netweather forecasters. The scorching conditions are predicted to begin on July 31 and continue for four days.
Timing and Location of Peak Heat
On Friday, July 31, southern regions are likely to experience the most sweltering conditions. In London, temperatures are predicted to hit 32C, though the hottest spots, including Sussex and Gloucestershire, will see highs of 37C. The Met Office has cautioned that conditions could become "very warm again by the start of August."
All areas of the UK expected to see temperatures above 30C include South West England, South East England, Greater London, East of England, East Midlands, and West Midlands.

Should temperatures climb this high, heat and health warnings are likely to be issued once again. A heatwave is defined as an extended period of exceptionally hot and humid weather, usually lasting for three or more days, determined relative to the typical climate of a particular location.
Forecast for August 1 and Beyond
On August 1, temperatures will climb further in London, with the capital baking at 33C. The peak temperature, according to the weather maps, will hit 34C across Suffolk and Norfolk. Meanwhile, throughout the Midlands, numerous locations will see the mercury climb to 31C, while the South West will see milder conditions at 27C.
In the days ahead, the scorching heat will gradually begin to ease. Even so, weather charts continue to show the South East reaching 31C on August 2.

The Met Office outlook for August 2 to August 16 states: "Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south." Thundery conditions could also be in store, as the outlook continues: "Although most areas may see dry weather for much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients."
