The Met Office has issued a 'very warm' forecast, indicating that some parts of the UK could experience a fourth heatwave this year. After a drop in temperatures and a wet weekend, hot weather may return as soon as Tuesday, July 28.
Potential Fourth Heatwave
Regions across the country have already experienced three heatwaves this year. The May Day bank holiday saw temperatures exceed 30C in Merseyside, drawing crowds to seaside towns like Formby and Southport. Further extreme heat followed in June and early July.
The Met Office stated: 'Temperatures are expected to recover quickly in the south. Many parts of England and Wales are likely to return to the mid to high twenties Celsius, with the potential for temperatures to reach 30°C again in southern and eastern England by Tuesday (July 28).'
For the southeast, the forecaster added: 'Conditions in the southeast could become very warm or locally hot, with the possibility that some locations may once again reach heatwave criteria, potentially making this the fourth heatwave episode of the year for parts of the UK.'
August Outlook
Looking ahead, southern areas are expected to remain relatively settled and very warm, while northern parts may see periods of rain or showers. Early August could bring more widely unsettled conditions, though details remain uncertain.
Last month was the hottest June on record, with 37.7C recorded on June 26 in Lingwood, Norfolk. The heatwave dominated the end of June before unsettled weather arrived in mid-July.
In its long-range outlook for August in the North West, the Met Office said: 'Dry and settled conditions will probably dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.'
