The UK is preparing for three heatwaves in June, with temperatures expected to reach 30C. After a wet Bank Holiday weekend, the sun is forecast to appear from Friday, with temperatures hitting 20C initially. However, hotter weather is predicted as heat moves north from Europe, boosted by warm seas.
Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, said temperatures could soar 'well into the 30s' in prone areas. He told Birmingham Live: 'I would suggest we will share in some of that in the latter stage of May, and into June and July. We will see climbing temperatures well into the 30s in the prone areas. That is the expectation.'
The Weather Outlook also forecasts 30C for next month. Forecaster Brian Gaze said: 'June looks settled to start with and is forecast several fine spells, with bursts of very warm weather and potentially reaching 30C for the first time this year.' A Met Office forecaster added that from June 8 to 22, temperatures have more chance of being above average.
The Met Office, which defines a heatwave as three consecutive days with maximum temperatures of 25C or above, has also predicted 2024 could be the hottest year on record. London could see temperatures between 30C and 33C. The Met Office warned that heatwaves in the UK are now 30 times more likely due to climate change.
