The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for six counties in Northern Ireland, effective from noon to 7pm today. The warning covers County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone.
Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely, with up to 60 mph possible on exposed coasts of Down and Antrim, as well as over high ground. The strong winds may cause disruption to transport and infrastructure, including delays on roads, rail, and ferry services.
In addition to the winds, persistent rain will affect all areas, creating difficult travelling conditions. Coastal communities are advised to be aware of large waves and spray, and to stay safe by keeping a safe distance from the shore.
The Met Office statement warns: 'If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.' No other weather warnings are currently in place across the UK.
