The UK is set to experience a bitterly cold snap later this month, with weather maps showing temperatures dropping below freezing across several regions. According to projections from WXCharts.com, the mercury could fall beneath 0C on April 25 and 26, particularly in northern parts of the country.
Scotland and north-west England will be worst affected, with temperatures potentially reaching -4C in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Dundee. In England, Newcastle, Blackpool, and Manchester could see -3C cold spells. The Midlands and the North East are also expected to face sub-zero temperatures, though slightly milder.
The Met Office forecast for April 18 to 27 indicates a mix of conditions: “A few showers around at the start of the period, mainly affecting the northwest where it will also be windy for a time. For many though the weekend should be fine and dry with spells of warm sunshine, but still some chilly nights.” It adds that Atlantic fronts may bring rain to western areas, while northern and eastern regions could see plenty of dry weather, with temperatures likely remaining above average overall.
Before the cold snap, parts of the UK, such as Canterbury in Kent, are expected to enjoy temperatures exceeding 20C due to a plume of warm air moving north from Europe. The eight coldest locations during the Arctic blast are predicted to include Dundee in Scotland, and Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire in England.
