Temperatures are forecast to reach 29°C this weekend as a spell of above-average warmth follows a week of rain and cloud. The Met Office predicts showery spells and unsettled conditions dominating the week, with possible hail and thunder in northern England on Tuesday.
A band of heavy rain is expected to blanket the UK on Thursday before moving eastwards. However, from Friday, conditions are set to brighten, with temperatures climbing to the early twenties in the southeast as pressure builds.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates stated: "From this weekend the UK forecast will have a distinctly warmer and drier component with a prolonged spell of above-average temperatures, with values in some locations quite likely to reach 27 to 29°C, with the potential for higher values than this."
High pressure is expected to remain close to the UK until Tuesday, bringing settled conditions and often above-average temperatures. Forecasters note that while settled weather is likely to continue into next week, temperatures may not stay as warm.
