UK weather maps show exact date 26C September heat arrives - 18 hottest counties

New weather maps indicate that parts of the UK could experience temperatures of 25C to 26C next week, with the warmest conditions expected on Monday, September 14.

According to Netweather charts, southern and south-eastern England will see the highest temperatures, widely reaching the low-to-mid 20s. At 12pm, the map shows highs of around 23C to 24C across parts of the South East, with the highest values concentrated around London and surrounding counties.

By mid-afternoon, temperatures are shown rising further to 25C to 26C across parts of southern and eastern England, while areas farther north remain cooler. In total, 18 counties and areas are shown reaching temperatures of at least 25C.

Met Office outlook

The Met Office has said there is scope for "some rather warm days at times" between September 12 and 21, although temperatures overall are expected to remain close to average.

There is a noticeable temperature divide farther north, with England, beginning at Cumbria, showing closer to the high teens and low 20s. Inland areas of southern England appear to see some of the highest temperatures, with several coastal spots remaining slightly cooler.

Wider European picture

Parts of Wales are generally shown at around 16C to 23C, while temperatures across much of Scotland are lower, broadly ranging through the low teens to low 20s on the charts.

A separate map, created by WXCHARTS, also shows warmer air moving across the UK on September 14. The chart shows warmer air stretching across much of western Europe at 6am, including Britain. Warmer conditions are particularly noticeable across France, Spain and Portugal, with even hotter air shown farther south across the Mediterranean.

The UK sits on the northern edge of this warmer air, with cooler conditions shown across Scandinavia and parts of northern Europe.
