The United Kingdom is poised to experience temperatures exceeding those in Ibiza this week, with the Met Office predicting highs of up to 30 degrees Celsius. Forecasters indicate that high pressure will usher in warm and humid conditions, pushing temperatures above the average for this time of year.
North East Weather Outlook
In the North East, temperatures are expected to reach 22 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday. Those enjoying early summer staycations further south will encounter even warmer weather, with London forecast to hit 27 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
This is hotter than the popular Mediterranean destination of Ibiza, which is predicted to see highs of 25 degrees Celsius next week. However, the UK will not surpass neighboring Mallorca, where the capital Palma is set to reach a scorching 35 degrees Celsius.
Recent and Upcoming Conditions
This past weekend, Kent recorded highs of 22.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while London's Kew Gardens reached 21.3 degrees Celsius. Sunday is expected to be fine and dry for most of the UK, though the North East may see cloud and a few light showers after a sunny start.
Monday will bring "a bright day with mainly fine, dry weather and light winds" to the region, with plenty of sunny spells and highs of 17 degrees Celsius. The outlook from Tuesday to Thursday predicts breezy and cloudy conditions, with occasional outbreaks of rain as it turns gradually warmer.
Thunderstorms and Warming Trend
Some parts of the country may experience thunderstorms on Monday, though temperatures should remain in the low 20s before cloud and rain spread from the west on Tuesday. Forecasters say the heat will increase from midweek as warmer air from Europe moves into the UK.
On Wednesday, temperatures in southeast England could reach around 27 degrees Celsius, with another surge of warmth expected on Thursday and Friday and into the following weekend. While cloud cover could affect the highest temperatures, there is a chance of 30 degrees Celsius being recorded by the end of the week.
Met Office forecaster Kathryn Chalk said: "We're definitely seeing a warming trend from midweek onwards." Relatively warm and humid nights are also anticipated, though not as extreme as a few weeks ago, as the sunshine will not be as widespread.
