A 7C chill will grip Scotland, England and Wales on Friday, August 7, bringing the current heatwave to an end.
According to WXCharts weather maps, the temperature will switch this week, with cooler conditions sweeping across much of the nation. Forty areas are forecast to fall below 10C.
Coldest in Scotland
Most of Scotland is expected to see temperatures below 10C, making it the coolest part of the UK. In England, southern areas will be slightly warmer, but far from the 30C-plus highs seen recently. Durham, Devon and Warwickshire are also predicted to be 10C or lower on Friday.
Drier From Thursday
The Met Office has warned that after a wet period, conditions are likely to become drier from Thursday. The forecaster then predicts a "rather changeable" spell, with cooler temperatures but the chance of sunny interludes.

The following areas are expected to drop below 10C:
- England: Devon, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland
- Wales: Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire, Merionethshire, Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire
- Scotland: Wigtownshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Dumfriesshire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Peeblesshire, Berwickshire, East Lothian, Midlothian, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Perthshire, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Kincardineshire, Argyllshire, Inverness-shire, Banffshire, Ross-shire, Cromartyshire, Sutherland, Caithness, Nairnshire
Brief Cold Spell
The cold conditions will not last long. Tuesday, August 11 will see some areas again fall to 7C, though many places that dipped below 10C will start to climb back into the teens.
