Weather forecasting models suggest temperatures could rise as high as 37C next week, with seven English counties expected to see the hottest conditions.
Potential Fourth Heatwave of 2026
The Met Office says temperatures are expected to be above average as July ends and August begins, and could potentially turn 'very hot' again. Another scorching spell would constitute the UK's fourth heatwave of 2026.
The GFS weather model shows temperatures rising to 33C in eastern and southern areas on Tuesday, with 30-32C possible quite widely across England and Wales. Areas as far north as Yorkshire could hit 32C.
Counties Facing 37C
GFS model maps show temperatures hitting 37C in seven counties, all in England: Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.
Temperatures could then reach 37C on Wednesday, the data suggests, with the warmest conditions coming in western and southern England. The maps show sizzling 36C highs are possible from London right up to Yorkshire.
Met Office Forecast
The Met Office says conditions could turn 'very warm' again by the start of next month. There is also a risk of showers in places.
The Met Office forecast for July 27 to August 5 states: 'A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but southeastern areas should also see some showers.'
'Confidence becomes lower into the start of August, but there are hints that high pressure could return for a time, which would mean dry conditions resuming, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, but occasionally fresh or strong around some coasts, mainly in the north and west.'
'Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.'
