According to the Met Office, conditions could turn "very warm again by the start of August," with temperatures forecast to soar. The peak of the heat begins at the end of July and is expected to last for four days, potentially bringing record-breaking temperatures.
Temperatures to Reach 37C in Some Areas
On Friday, July 31, southern areas are likely to experience the warmest weather. In London, temperatures are forecast to reach 32C, but the hottest regions could see highs of 37C. The peak is expected in Sussex and Gloucestershire. If temperatures climb this high, heat and health warnings are likely to be reinstated. All regions expected to exceed 30C include South West England, South East England, Greater London, East of England, East Midlands, and West Midlands.
Heatwave Continues into August
Continuing into August, warm conditions will persist, with temperatures remaining in the high twenties and thirties. A heatwave is defined as a prolonged period of excessively hot and humid weather, typically lasting three or more days. On August 1, temperatures in London will increase further, with the capital scorching at 33C, according to weather maps. The highest temperature predicted by the forecaster is 34C in Suffolk and Norfolk. Elsewhere, many areas in the Midlands will reach 31C, while the South West will experience a cooler 27C.
Gradual Cooling but Remains Above Normal
Over the following days, the heat will slowly reduce. However, weather maps still predict the South East to reach 31C on August 2. The Met Office forecast for August 2 to August 16 states: "Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south." The forecast also notes the possibility of stormy weather, adding: "Although most areas may see dry weather for much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients."
