Britain is forecast to experience a significant warming trend, with temperatures potentially soaring into the mid-20s, just in time for the late May bank holiday weekend. This optimistic outlook follows a week of unseasonal weather, characterised by blustery showers, a noticeable chill, and temperatures widely below average, with some areas experiencing single-digit figures.
Warming Trend Expected
Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth predicts that by the end of next week and the start of the bank holiday weekend (around May 25), temperatures could be above average, possibly reaching the low 20s for some regions. The warming trend is attributed to a shift from low pressure to high pressure dominating the weather, which is expected to bring less cloud, more sunshine, and lighter winds, causing temperatures to rise.
Regional Forecast
While there is some uncertainty regarding the exact location of the highest temperatures, southern areas could see temperatures approaching 20 degrees from Thursday onwards, with the South East potentially reaching the mid-20s by the bank holiday weekend. The Met Office advises that the exact figures will become clearer as the weekend approaches.
This welcome change comes after a period of cold and unsettled conditions, with many parts of the UK experiencing below-average temperatures and frequent showers. The bank holiday weekend is expected to see a return to more typical late-spring weather, with plenty of sunshine and warmer conditions.
