The Met Office has named the fourth storm of the year, Storm Dave, which will bring very strong winds to northern parts of the UK on Saturday evening and into Easter Sunday.
Wind gusts of 60 to 70mph are expected across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and northern England, with the potential for gusts of up to 90mph in exposed coastal locations in Scotland. A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued for these areas.
A separate yellow warning for snow is in place between 3pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday, covering north-west Scotland. Heavy snow is possible above 200 metres in northern Scotland, where 10-20cm could accumulate, leading to blizzard conditions when combined with the strong winds.
Deputy chief forecaster Tom Crabtree said Storm Dave will form and rapidly deepen on Saturday as it approaches from the west, with winds strengthening significantly by the afternoon. He advised people to prepare their property for the strong winds and to keep updated with the latest forecast, as warnings may be updated.
Heavy spells of rain are also expected as the system moves eastwards across the UK, affecting many areas over the Easter weekend.
