The Met Office has warned that parts of Scotland will be hit by heavy rain on Thursday, July 30, just over 24 hours after much of the UK experiences a heatwave with temperatures in the mid-30°C range.
North-south split expected
Chief forecaster Gregory Wolverson said: "By Wednesday, some areas could see temperatures in the mid-30°Cs, and while the heat will not be widespread across the whole of the UK, it will be enough for parts of the southeast to likely meet official heatwave criteria by Thursday."
However, while the south could see heatwave conditions, forecasters predict a north-south split, with outbreaks of rain in Scotland on Thursday.

Met Office weather maps for Thursday show a band of rain moving in from the west, drenching much of Scotland, predominantly the north. The east near Fife and the southwest in Dumfries and Galloway will also see downpours. Spots of rain are also indicated in Cornwall and Devon in southern England.
The Met Office forecast for Thursday to Saturday states: "Scotland can expect heavy rain on Thursday. Turning fresher elsewhere, though still mostly dry, with some warm sunshine. Showery in the north thereafter, with dry, warm and sunnier weather elsewhere."
